Behind the name Flat Elephant Design is Graphic Designer Tom Schweizer. Originally from Bath, UK, Tom has developed his design skills from over 10 years of working in the design industry.
Why Flat Elephant?
A question often asked is 'why Flat Elephant?'. Whilst at school Tom made a flat elephant from clay for an art project. Once commented it would make a great name for a design agency, it quickly became the front runner when setting up the business.
Tom started his graphic design career straight from college in Bath working for Novum Advertising, moving onto Bristol creative agency Dirty Design after a period of freelancing.
Tom has vast experience in company branding, brochure design, poster design, flyer design and web design across arts, charity, publishing, retail and corporate business, working for clients including; Arnolfini, Barclays Global Investors, Blonstein & Associates, Bristol City Council, Bristol International Airport, City of Bath College, Colston Hall, Legal & General, O2, Pan Macmillan, The National Trust, The Villa Book, Tigress Productions, Unite and University of Bath.
Setup in 2008, Flat Elephant Design has gone from strength to strength since re-locating to Melbourne from the UK in 2009. Flat Elephant Design has had a continued influx of new clients, and understands the great importance and value of establishing strong on-going relationships with all clients.
What and Who For?
Flat Elephant Design has worked with a wide range of clients, including; Mt Baw Baw, Tempur Australia & New Zealand, Docked, The Bean Barn, and Luna Park. Flat Elephant Design has worked on various projects for these clients, from logo design and branding projects to brochures and banners. All design work is carried out in-house and with the same high level of attention to detail no matter the size of the project.
Briefing
Sometimes the most important part of a new design project, a good brief can make or break a design. A well tailored brief helps give the designer the best possible start, allowing the design to fit your needs. A specially designed briefing form can be supplied (Download) to help this process.
Research
Good research allows a designer to begin to understand your business' area of expertise. It's also important to see where your competitors are positioning their company, and how to make yours different from the rest. This research helps a designer make your business stand out in the marketplace.
Concept work
The first step of the designing process, getting designs down on paper. Flat Elephant Design's focus is quality over quantity, working hard to provide you with a selection of high quality and unique concepts that match the design brief.
Development
After the concept, comes design development. It's not expected that concepts are always perfect, so development work needs to be done. This is your chance to direct the designer to get your design looking right for your company.
